Recycle Your Gadgets For Cash

reCommerce your old technology
In my apartment building, the laundry room is used to house items that tenants no longer want so that other tenants can pick them up for free. It’s a great system and I’ve found many a free find there. There is one caveat, however. We are not allowed to give away our technological gadgets there - no printers, computers, faxes, cellphones, playstations, etc.
This has saddened me on two fronts. First of all, I’d love to walk into the laundry room and find a free television. Secondly, what am I to do with my old printer now that I have a new one? Read on for info on how to sell your old technology for a sizable chunk of cash (if it still works) or have it picked up for free (if it doesn’t).
The Problem with Recycling Electronics
Computers and other technological gadgets have provided great benefits to our society. They have the power to inform, to stay connected and to simplify our lives. They also have a short shelf life and that means that our landfills are rapidly filling with toxic chemicals, carcinogens and heavy metals.
Recycling companies are popping up as more people realize there is money to be made on components. While these companies help your equipment avoid the landfill, unethical recycling companies sell what they gather to China where dangerous methods are used to extract the valuable components at the cost of workers’ health and environmental protections.
